Current Transformer and Potential Transformer-(CT-PT) is a device used to measure currents and voltages are known as CT -PT. CT is nothing but step down the current to be measured so that it can be measured with a normal range ammeter. the device which steps down the voltage of high magnitude to a lower voltage which can be measured with the standard measuring instrument is PT. It has a large number of primary turns and a smaller number of secondary turns.
These are used for lowering the current signals and for measurement purposes CT is used, while PT is used for lowering high voltage values into lower one these two transformers reduce the current as well as the voltage from high to low value. Since they feature a magnetic circuit in their primary and secondary winding both the CT and PT have similar construction.

CURRENT TRANSFORMER:
CT are nothing but devices that measures alternating or A.C current.
A current transformer function includes:
Turning large primary currents into small of 1A/5A current
Provides the current to the coil of measuring device and protective relaying
In separating primary voltage from secondary voltage.
Characteristics of a current transformer CT:
The resistance between the instrument’s current coil and with which the CT’s secondary winding is connected is small.
In series, the current primary winding is installed.
POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER:
Potential transformers also called voltage transformers, measure aspects of the power supply. It measures voltage.
Functions of the potential or voltage transformers:
It not only measures high voltages but also reduces high voltage values into lesser values.
For easier use of protective and measuring instruments/devices.
It converts proportionally the high voltage into a standard secondary voltage of 100V.
It isolates the high voltage from electricians using the Potential Transformers.
